Sophie in Malibu

I don’t know exactly what it is about Sophie Seymour, but she made such an indelible impression on me after we met. She pulled up to the Malibu Country Mart outside Los Angeles a few months ago in an old van, the dash completely covered in old flowers and plants and bric-a-brac, and I immediately fell in love with her personality. Driving this giant lumbering van up and down the PCH in a floral swimsuit, barefoot and laughing. My heart swelled.

We crept through a hidden entrance to a gorgeous beach in Malibu — fortunately Sophie knows the area well — and settled in an area replete with beach grasses, salty sea air, and lots of hazy hazy sunshine.

I brought a few rolls of film and my digital camera. I love how both mediums turned out, it’s impossible to take a bad photo of Sophie.

I can’t wait to work with her again. Malibu seemed like the most comfortable place to photograph someone like Sophie, who spends a lot of time out in nature, but I’m curious to see how her look would translate in NYC

Below is a series of film photos that I really loved. I’m not sure how these incredible light leaks happened but I’m not mad at it
